About Us
In the summer of 2021, a group of concerned Solana Beach residents met to discuss the needs of mature adults in our community. This resulted in the establishment of Solana Beach Community Connections, a volunteer-driven, 501(c)(3) nonprofit group to assist seniors who seek support to age in place.
Our research identified numerous services in San Diego North County which were not easily found in one place. With you in mind, we designed our website to help you quickly find the resources you're looking for all in one place.
Our Accomplishments
This year marked Solana Beach Community Connections third year of helping Solana Beach seniors age independently in their homes. Drawing on the work of a small, dedicated Board, we have achieved the following since 2021.
Successfully partnered with Friends of the Solana Beach Library to co-sponsor the ongoing Lecture Series for 2021-2022, 2022-2023 and 2023-2024. Topics included a mixture of current affairs/events and challenges for seniors living independently.
In June 2024, SBCC initiated a three-part Summer Lecture Series in partnership with Solana Beach Parks & Recreation at La Colonia Park Community Center on timely and entertaining topics for Solana Beach residents.
Created a resource website for seniors listing a total of 54 resources available to seniors seeking support for transportation, meals, health and caregiving, social services, and much more. The website also includes a Community Activities Bulletin Board promoting other relevant/significant community events.
Received a $6,000 grant from the City of Solana Beach and raised $6,000 in matching funds to provide shallow rent subsidies for qualified Solana Beach seniors. SBCC partnered with the Community Resource Center (CRC) in Encinitas to administer the grant.
Initiated a monthly bilingual Game Day at La Colonia Park Community Center in collaboration with the City of Solana Beach Parks & Recreation Department and more recently with Let’s Play a Game Foundation.
Developed a summer, four-part writing workshop series for people who want to “Tell Their Story” in vignettes and reminiscences.
Partnered with Del Mar Community Connections (DMCC) to present a seminar facilitated by the FBI about scams which victimize seniors.
